Migrating e-Patterns from eBook Reader to Adobe Reader

Follow these steps after you have upgraded to Adobe Reader and only if you have previously installed eBook Reader on your computer.

  1. If you still have the “Activate Adobe Reader” screen still open from the previous step, there is a link towards the bottom of the page for downloading the eBook Migration Utility. Click on the link for your operating system.
  2. If you have closed the “Activate Adobe Reader” screen, in the Adobe Reader software, from the drop-down menu’s at the top of your screen, click on “Tools”, then “eBook Web Services”, then “Adobe DRM Activator.” This will open up a series of windows, it will confirm that your Adobe Reader software has been activated and then open the window mentioned in #1 above.
  3. Once you click on the download link, a “File Download” window will appear. Choose “Save this program to disk” if it is not already selected and then save it to your hard drive. A good place to save it is your desktop, that way it will be easy to find.
  4. Once the download is complete, find the file on your hard drive or desktop then double-click the file to begin the installation.
  5. Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Click “No”, then disconnect from the Internet, close all your programs and restart the computer yourself.
  6. Once your computer re-starts, double click on the Adobe eBook Migration utility shortcut on your desktop.
  7. A window will pop-up that states, “Please make sure neither Adobe Reader nor Acrobat is running before migrating you eBooks.” It runs without intervention unless it encounters an unexpected condition. You will receive a message after successful migration that states, “All your eBooks have been migrated!” Click “OK”. If Adobe eBook Migration Utility cannot find the Acrobat eBook Reader Data directory, it asks you to locate it. CAUTION: After Adobe eBook Migration Utility migrates your eBooks to Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat, you can no longer read these eBooks using Acrobat eBook Reader, and you cannot reverse the migration.
  8. After Adobe eBook Migration Utility finishes, verify that it has properly migrated your eBooks:
    1. Start Adobe Reader.
    2. From the drop-down menu, select File, My Bookshelf. Verify that your previously acquired eBooks appear in My Bookshelf. If they do not appear at first, right-click the My Bookshelf window and choose Refresh My Bookshelf from the context menu. A window will pop-up that states, “My Bookshelf could take a few moments to refresh. Click OK to continue or Cancel to stop. Click “OK.”
    3. Open each eBook and verify that you can read it.
  9. You can still use Acrobat eBook Reader after Adobe eBook Migration Utility finishes, but you can no longer download eBooks to Acrobat eBook Reader, and you can no longer read any eBooks that have been migrated to Adobe Reader. Cover thumbnails for these books remain in the Acrobat eBook Reader library. You can choose Menu > Delete to delete these thumbnails. After you verify that all eBooks have been migrated, you can remove (uninstall) Acrobat eBook Reader and Adobe eBook Migration Utility.
